Japanese actor Matsushige Yutaka shared a story about how he proposed directing to director Bong Joon-ho.
On the afternoon of the 7th, Matsushige Yutaka attended the press screening and Korean press conference for the movie ‘The Lonely Gourmet: The Movie’ held at CGV Yongsan I-Park Mall in Yongsan-gu, Seoul, and said, “When planning this film adaptation, I had a desire to expand the scale beyond the framework of Japanese cinema. That’s why I thought of director Bong Joon-ho.”
He mentioned, “Since I had previously worked with director Bong, I thought he would cook up something interesting, so I wrote him a letter asking for his direction. Unfortunately, at that time, our schedules didn’t align, so it didn’t happen. Instead, I received a warm response wishing for the success of the project.”
He continued, “I thought if no one else was available, I might as well direct it myself, so I ended up doing it. I never imagined that my film would be released around the same time as director Bong Joon-ho’s work (‘Mickey 17’). It was surprising. I made the film as a challenge and was fortunate to have this opportunity.”
Matsushige previously collaborated with director Bong on the Korean-French-Japanese co-production film ‘Tokyo!’ (2008). Matsushige Yutaka is also set to release the film ‘Last Mile,’ which shares a universe with the Japanese dramas ‘MIU404’ and ‘Unnatural’ in Korea.
‘The Lonely Gourmet: The Movie’ tells the story of Goro, a professional solo diner, who embarks on an unintended adventure from Paris, France, to the southern winds of Korea and Geoje Island, all in search of the ultimate broth. Matsushige Yutaka, the long-time lead actor of the Japanese long-running drama ‘The Lonely Gourmet,’ has taken on the roles of director, screenwriter, and planner, drawing attention.
It will be released on the 19th.
