HYBE and the Northern Gyeonggi Police (hereinafter referred to as Northern Gyeonggi Police) are joining forces to combat the rising cyber crimes, including deepfake incidents.
HYBE and the Northern Gyeonggi Police signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on the eradication of deepfake crimes on the 25th at the Northern Gyeonggi Police Station located in Uijeongbu, Gyeonggi Province.
HYBE and the Northern Gyeonggi Police plan to closely collaborate by establishing a cyber crime victim reporting hotline to prevent artist victimization and apprehend offenders.
This MOU is based on the consensus that cooperation between the agency and law enforcement is necessary for investigating cyber crimes targeting artists.
Recently, there has been an increase in deepfake crimes not only domestically but also on messaging platforms with servers located overseas. Particularly for celebrities, the high public interest leads to a significant number of incidents involving illegal videos, which spread rapidly. There is a growing need for collaboration between agencies and law enforcement to protect victims from such crimes and establish a swift response system.
The Northern Gyeonggi Police expect that cooperation with HYBE will enhance their cyber crime investigation capabilities. The Northern Gyeonggi Police have achieved the top rank in cyber sexual violence investigations nationwide for two consecutive years in 2023 and 2024, and have been selected as the top cyber team by the National Investigation Headquarters of the National Police Agency in 2024, demonstrating their expertise in cyber crime investigations.
With this MOU, HYBE aims to enhance its artist protection system.
Kim Ho-seung, Chief of Northern Gyeonggi Police, stated, “I expect that cooperation with HYBE, a leading entertainment company in South Korea, will increase investigation efficiency,” and added, “As cyber crime methods become more sophisticated with technological advancements, we will enhance our investigative expertise based on this MOU.”
Lee Jae-sang, CEO of HYBE, expressed, “I am pleased to collaborate with the Northern Gyeonggi Police, which has expertise in cyber crime investigations,” and stated, “We will continue to do our best to protect the rights of artists.”
