Seo Hee-won, the wife of K-pop group Clon member Koo Jun-yup and a Taiwanese actress, has passed away, leading to the suspension of her ex-husband and former mother-in-law's social media accounts.
According to multiple Taiwanese media outlets on the 8th, Seo Hee-won's ex-husband Wang Su-bi and her former mother-in-law Zhang Lan had their accounts indefinitely suspended by Douyin, the parent company of TikTok, for allegedly using the deceased for malicious marketing. Weibo also suspended Zhang Lan's live broadcast, pointing out that she maliciously posted or spread rumors that harmed the deceased and her family.
Earlier, it was reported that on the day Seo Hee-won's remains arrived in Taiwan, her former mother-in-law Zhang Lan conducted a live commerce broadcast, shocking many. The broadcast was terminated about an hour later due to reports from netizens, and it is said that she made a profit of 1 million yuan (approximately 1.01 million USD) from it.
In response to the criticism of “exploiting her deceased daughter-in-law for personal gain,” the former mother-in-law reportedly said, “I don’t care whether it looks good or bad. I have 7,000 employees to support, so I have no choice but to broadcast.” She also mentioned a false claim that “my son rented a private jet for Seo Hee-won’s family.”
Seo Hee-won, who is also famous for her role as the female lead in the Taiwanese drama “Boys Over Flowers,” suddenly passed away on the 2nd due to pneumonia accompanying the flu while on a family trip to Japan.
On the 6th, when Koo Jun-yup transferred the late Seo Hee-won's ashes to Taiwan, he expressed his feelings on Instagram, saying, “I am going through a time of indescribable sadness and pain, feeling as if my insides are being torn apart. I have no strength to say anything, nor do I want to.”
He continued, “Before the immense pain of loss and mourning could pass, devilish people began to slander our family and my love. Some pretend to be sad while wandering around in the rain, while others create fake news about insurance and costs to hurt our family.”
The late Seo Hee-won's manager, amid the flood of fake news, supported Koo Jun-yup on social media, saying, “A real man protects his children on Seo Hee-won's side. While rumors were being spread, we quietly mourned.”
Seo Hee-won dated Koo Jun-yup for about two years in the late 1990s before breaking up. She later married Chinese businessman Wang Su-bi (Wang Xiao-fei) in 2011. However, they divorced in 2021, and upon hearing this news, Koo Jun-yup reached out to Seo Hee-won, leading to their reunion. After 20 years of waiting, they became a couple in 2022, but tragically, they lost each other just three years into their marriage.
