Seo Hee-won (Hsu Shih-yuan, 48), the wife of male duo Clon’s Gu Jun-yeop and a Taiwanese actress, has passed away suddenly, raising issues surrounding her estate as a local topic in Taiwan.
On the 4th, Taiwanese media, including Dongsen Broadcasting Station (ETTV), reported that Seo Hee-won's estate is estimated to be at least 600 million yuan (approximately 120 billion won).
The late star, who was a top celebrity in Taiwan, was known to own real estate worth about 25 billion won, including the site of the National Museum of Fine Arts in Hsinchu and a penthouse. It is speculated that when combined with the assets she received from her divorce from her ex-husband, businessman Wang Shao-bi (Wang Xiao-fei), the total would exceed 600 million yuan.
The Taiwanese legal community believes that if Seo Hee-won did not leave a will, her daughter (10) and son (8) from her marriage with Wang Shao-bi, along with Gu Jun-yeop, would each inherit one-third of the estate.
There have been reports suggesting that Gu Jun-yeop may not be able to inherit because he did not register his marriage with Seo Hee-won, but Gu Jun-yeop stated in a 2022 appearance on tvN's 'You Quiz on the Block' that he registered his marriage in both Korea and Taiwan.
However, since Gu Jun-yeop did not adopt the children, the custody of the two minor children may go to the ex-husband. This could lead to disagreements regarding the distribution of the estate.
Meanwhile, Seo Hee-won married Chinese businessman Wang Shao-bi in 2011 and had a daughter and son, but they divorced in 2021. The following year, she remarried Gu Jun-yeop, whom she had reunited with after about 20 years.
Wang Shao-bi promised to pay alimony and living expenses during the divorce process, but he stopped the payments when Seo Hee-won remarried. As a result, Seo Hee-won applied for enforcement in court in 2023.
In the midst of this, Seo Hee-won suddenly passed away on the 2nd due to pneumonia accompanied by the flu while on a family trip to Japan, causing shock. After completing the cremation process in Japan, Gu Jun-yeop, along with his sister-in-law and broadcaster Seo Hee-je, transferred the remains of the late Seo Hee-won to Taiwan on the 6th. There will be no separate farewell ceremony.
