In ‘Pook Shimeon Dahyang’, a 0.5-star deserted island revealed a gourmet course worthy of a 5-star hotel.
In the 32nd episode of the MBC entertainment program ‘Pook Shimeon Dahyang’ (hereafter ‘Pookdaehang’), which aired on the 20th, the story of the second day of operating a 0.5-star deserted island with 2024 Paris Olympic fencing gold medalist Oh Sang-wook, Korea's representative short track athlete Kwak Yoon-ki, the president of the Merguri Association Kim Dae-ho, veteran Merguri Park Jun-hyung, and chef Jung Ho-young was depicted.
According to Nielsen Korea, the viewership rating for the broadcast on January 21st recorded 5.3% nationwide, ranking first in the entertainment category during the same time slot and first among all entertainment programs aired on Monday. The 2049 viewership rating also ranked first among Monday entertainment shows, proving once again that ‘Pookdaehang’ is the ‘Monday entertainment powerhouse’ with its consistently golden performance.
On that day, Oh Sang-wook challenged fishing from the morning. Identifying himself as ‘Oh Taegong’, he expressed confidence, saying, “I started fishing at 21 and have been doing it for about 8 years,” and “I’ve caught a 96cm mackerel.” To reach the deep sea with various fish species, Oh Sang-wook combined the water bicycle and raft left by the big hand, Seri, to create a fishing spot. National short track athlete Kwak Yoon-ki added his golden thigh strength to take Oh Sang-wook and the workers to the deep sea.
Although Oh Sang-wook was an excellent fisherman, luck was not on his side. While novice fisherman Park Jun-hyung caught a knifejaw, a rockfish, and a sea bream, he failed to catch even one. Even Kim Dae-ho caught a sea bream, creating a festive atmosphere on the fishing boat, but Oh Sang-wook could not hide his anxiety. Finally, he got a bite, and the fish he caught was a red snapper, which is the highest-priced fish in the market. However, due to its small size, he had to release the red snapper.
Later, various fish such as sea bream and flatfish excited everyone as they came out of the trap set the previous day. The pufferfish, which is usually considered a bust due to its toxicity, was welcomed thanks to chef Jung Ho-young, who has a certification. However, Oh Sang-wook's trap was again a bust, containing only a mini-sized pufferfish that had to be released, leading to another humiliation.
Nevertheless, thanks to the plentiful catch, the breakfast menu was decided to be ‘Sea Bream Sashimi Noodle’ with three sea breams. The noodles, flavored with chef Jung Ho-young's special sauce, were topped generously with expensive sea bream sashimi, stimulating everyone's appetite. Initially, Oh Sang-wook, who said he wouldn’t eat sashimi since he hadn’t caught any fish, cheekily asked for another piece after trying one due to the persuasion of his older brothers, causing laughter. Still, he fulfilled his role as a worker by skillfully preparing the sea bream and mixing the noodles with his golden hands that won him a gold medal.
After serving breakfast to the guests, the workers also tasted the sashimi noodles. At this time, Oh Sang-wook impressed everyone with his extraordinary eating show. Boom, who was watching this in the studio, said, “As far as I know, he usually eats at least five packs of ramen,” proving his amazing appetite. Oh Sang-wook, who earned the nickname ‘Noodle Sang-wook’, refilled his sashimi noodles, stimulating the viewers' appetites.
During the time for the final feast, Oh Sang-wook, who had experienced the humiliation of catching zero fish so far, was given a final chance for revenge. Oh Sang-wook said, “I can catch 30 fish with one throw,” and pulled out his secret weapon, the spear. Although he was confident, throwing the spear was not easy. Despite continued attempts, the spear failed to unfold properly, leading to repeated failures. After not giving up and throwing it again, the spear finally unfolded correctly, but ultimately, nothing was caught.
Although the spear was a failure, Oh Sang-wook had strong older brothers behind him. After diligently searching the sea, Merguri Association president Kim Dae-ho and veteran Merguri Park Jun-hyung secured various ingredients such as conch and scallops. Finally, dinner time arrived, and chef Jung Ho-young prepared ‘Conch Sweet and Sour’, the first ‘Pufferfish Sashimi’ on a 0.5-star deserted island, ‘Mugwort Fish Stew’ with flatfish, and ‘Scallop Stone Pot Rice’ for the dinner menu.
The preparation of pufferfish, which is not commonly seen, caught everyone's attention. He, who obtained pufferfish certification in both Korea and Japan, skillfully prepared the pufferfish, removing the poison and slicing it thinly to prepare perfect pufferfish sashimi. Ahn Jung-hwan, who said he loves pufferfish the most, envied him while watching the screen in the studio.
With Chinese dish ‘Conch Sweet and Sour’, Japanese dish ‘Pufferfish Sashimi’, and Korean dishes ‘Mugwort Fish Stew’ and ‘Scallop Stone Pot Rice’, chef Jung Ho-young once again completed an excellent course meal, showcasing the true value of a 0.5-star deserted island where the facilities are 0.5-star but the food is 5-star. Finally, while eating the feast, Oh Sang-wook vowed, “Next time, I will bring my luck,” raising expectations for his next worker challenge.
Meanwhile, in the preview released at the end of the broadcast, Ahn Jung-hwan's large project, “Every deserted island is a restaurant!” depicted the appearance of a deserted island restaurant, stimulating viewers' curiosity. MBC’s ‘Pook Shimeon Dahyang’ airs every Monday at 9 PM.
