Rapper DOK2 (real name Lee Jun-kyung), who is currently staying in the United States, claimed that he has been notified of a police investigation for defamation of a publication in South Korea.
On the 4th, DOK2 posted on his social media, “I am still in the U.S., but I heard that the police came to my Korean-style house to arrest me for defamation of a publication. They said they would arrest me if I don’t go for questioning tomorrow. Isn’t it someone who reported me after listening to my rap lyrics?” He added, “Is there really nothing else to do? This is how a real MC lives.”
Defamation of a publication applies when someone publicly states true or false facts that harm another's reputation. However, it is not known what specific statements or lyrics led to the complaint against DOK2.
DOK2 debuted in 2005 by participating in Dynamic Duo's song "Circus" and gained public recognition through Mnet's "Show Me the Money." He later drew attention by showcasing his immense wealth on broadcasts and stages, but he has also been involved in several controversies.
In 2018, allegations arose that his mother had not repaid 10 million won borrowed from a middle school classmate over 20 years ago. At that time, DOK2 stated, “The cost of meals is 10 million won a month, so I will just give it if they come,” which led to a strong backlash.
In 2021, he was sued for failing to pay bail, and the court issued a forced adjustment order for DOK2 to repay 45 million won to the bail company operator. In 2022-2023, it was revealed that he had defaulted on approximately 350 million won in comprehensive income tax and health insurance premiums, bringing him back into the spotlight.
With the notification of the defamation investigation, DOK2 has once again come under scrutiny. It remains to be seen what position and response he will take while staying in the United States.
