The group SEVENTEEN has shone a light on their status as the 'top K-pop group' by winning the most trophies among foreign artists at the Japan Gold Disc Awards.
According to the Japan Record Association on the 12th, SEVENTEEN was selected as the 'Best Asian Artist' at the '39th Japan Gold Disc Awards'. This award is given to the Asian artist with the highest sales based on achievements in physical albums, music videos, streaming, and more. SEVENTEEN has been named the winner in this category for two consecutive years, following last year.
Additionally, SEVENTEEN's best album '17 IS RIGHT HERE', released last April, and their mini album 'SPILL THE FEELS', released in October, were both included in the Asia category's 'Best 3 Albums'. Notably, '17 IS RIGHT HERE' was also selected as the 'Album of the Year' in the Asia category, highlighting their significant local popularity. With this, SEVENTEEN has achieved a total of 4 awards at the '39th Japan Gold Disc Awards'.
SEVENTEEN expressed their gratitude through their agency Pledis Entertainment, stating, "We are honored to receive such a valuable award this year as well. We believe it is thanks to our CARATs (the fandom name) who always support us and everyone who loves our music. Thank you. We will do our best to continue delivering good music in the future."
The 'Japan Gold Disc Awards', which started in 1987, is a ceremony held by the Japan Record Association to honor artists and works that have contributed to the development of the music industry. Winners in each category are selected based on sales performance of albums, music videos, and streaming results over the past year.
SEVENTEEN achieved overwhelming success in Japan last year. They ranked the highest among foreign artists in both the 'Combined Album Ranking' and 'Album Ranking' categories of the 'Oricon Annual Ranking 2024'. They also ranked 4th in the annual 'Total Sales by Artist' category announced by Oricon, achieving the highest rank among artists from regions outside Japan, including K-pop.
SEVENTEEN is set to meet local fans through a fan meeting in Japan. They will hold the 'SEVENTEEN 2025 Japan Fan Meeting Holiday' at Kyocera Dome Osaka on April 24 and 26-27, and at Saitama Super Arena on May 10-11. Prior to that, they will hold '2025 SEVENTEEN Ninth Fan Meeting SEVENTEEN in CARAT LAND' at Incheon Munhak Stadium on the 20th-21st of this month.
