Singer Lee Seung-hwan expresses his position as he files a lawsuit for damages against the Gumi mayor and others regarding the unilateral cancellation of his concert.
On the 22nd, Lee Seung-hwan will file a lawsuit for damages at the Seoul Central District Court against Gumi Mayor Kim Jang-ho and the city of Gumi for the unilateral cancellation of the 'Lee Seung-hwan 35th Anniversary Concert' that was scheduled to be held on December 25 of last year.
Prior to this, Lee Seung-hwan's representative, lawyer Lim Jae-sung from Haemaru Law Firm, is scheduled to hold a press briefing in front of the Seoul Central District Court at 11 AM on the 22nd. He is expected to represent the positions of Lee Seung-hwan and several other plaintiffs.
Earlier, after the emergency martial law situation that erupted on December 3 of last year, Lee Seung-hwan has openly expressed his political stance by calling for the impeachment of President Yoon Suk-yeol. He has boldly expressed his political views not only at rallies but also through his social media.
In response to Lee Seung-hwan's actions, conservative right-wing groups demanded that he cancel the Gumi concert. As the controversy continued, Mayor Kim urgently canceled Lee Seung-hwan's concert in Gumi. Mayor Kim stated, "The cancellation is for the safety of citizens and the audience."
Furthermore, Mayor Kim mentioned, "We requested that Mr. Lee Seung-hwan submit a plan for the deployment of safety personnel and a written pledge stating that he would not engage in 'political incitement or any actions that could lead to misunderstandings.' However, Mr. Lee Seung-hwan's side clearly expressed their opposition in writing through their legal representative, stating that they had no intention of signing the attached pledge."
In response, Lee Seung-hwan stated, "I do not engage in political incitement. My concert was not a politically motivated event, and there have been no issues in the past regarding venue rentals," arguing that the request for a pledge was unjust.
Subsequently, on the 3rd, Lee Seung-hwan recruited 100 plaintiffs for the lawsuit regarding damages from the Gumi concert through his social media.
