The film ‘Victory,’ which had been overshadowed by actor Yoo Ah-in's drug use allegations, is set to be released on March 26.
The production team of the movie ‘Victory’ announced its theatrical release on March 26 by unveiling the official poster on the 17th.
The released poster features actor Lee Byung-hun transforming into Korea's top Go legend, Cho Hun-hyun, capturing attention.
‘Victory’ tells the story of Korea's top Go legend Cho Hun-hyun (played by Lee Byung-hun) who, after losing a match against his disciple, challenges himself once again to reach the top with his innate competitive spirit. Yoo Ah-in plays the role of Lee Chang-ho in the film.
Initially, Ace Maker Movie Works was set to invest and distribute the film, which was also scheduled to be released on Netflix. However, due to Yoo Ah-in's drug use allegations, Netflix had temporarily suspended its release. ‘Victory,’ having found a new distributor, announced its release with an official poster featuring only Lee Byung-hun.
Another film featuring Yoo Ah-in, ‘High Five,’ is currently in limbo.
Yoo Ah-in was indicted in October 2023 for allegedly using propofol 181 times between 2020 and 2022. He is also facing charges for illegally obtaining sleeping pills under someone else's name and for smoking marijuana with acquaintances in the United States.
In September of last year, the first trial court sentenced Yoo Ah-in to one year in prison. He was found guilty of habitual use of medical narcotics and habitual purchase of sleeping pills under another person's name, while charges of teaching marijuana smoking and destroying evidence were deemed not guilty due to lack of evidence. The appeal process concluded on the 24th of last month, with a ruling expected on the 18th.
