Actress Song Hye-kyo's challenge has succeeded once more. Her return to the screen and first occult film, 'The Black Nuns', is on the brink of surpassing the break-even point (1.6 million).
According to the integrated ticket sales network of the Korean Film Council on the 2nd, 'The Black Nuns' recorded a cumulative audience of 1,404,208 as of 2 PM that day, surpassing the 1.4 million mark. With about 200,000 remaining to break even, it seems likely to achieve this milestone given the current box office trend.
Starring Song Hye-kyo and Jeon Yeo-bin, 'The Black Nuns' tells the story of people who embark on a forbidden ritual to save a boy possessed by a powerful evil spirit.
It is a spin-off of 'The Priests' (directed by Jang Jae-hyun, 2015), which opened a new chapter in Korean occult films, starting from the idea: "What would happen if the 12 forms reappeared in Korea, but the two priests, Kim Bum-sin (played by Kim Yoon-seok) and Choi Jun-ho (played by Kang Dong-won), who faced them, were not there?"
Song Hye-kyo, who experienced a turning point in her acting career with 'The Glory', and Jeon Yeo-bin, who dominated the screen at the end of the year with 'Harbin', lead the film.
In particular, Song Hye-kyo makes a strong entrance while smoking, showcasing her charisma with a steel-like mentality throughout. She displays a deeper level of depth reminiscent of her upgraded character Moon Dong-eun ('The Glory'). Additionally, Jeon Yeo-bin's pure and cute energy, combined with her unique talent, completes a strong 'woman's romance'.
