Kwon Sang-woo's starring film ‘Hitman 2’ has claimed the box office throne upon its release.

According to the Korea Film Council's integrated ticketing system on the morning of the 23rd, ‘Hitman 2’ attracted 100,590 viewers on its opening day, becoming the new king of the box office.

The film depicts the more challenging writing journey of Jun (Kwon Sang-woo), a legendary former National Intelligence Service agent turned screenwriter, who has fallen from being a mega-hit writer to a parody writer. The sequel to the beloved ‘Hitman’ (2020), which featured charming comedic moments, fantastic chemistry, high-quality action, and fresh webtoon elements, along with the standout performance of the sole female lead, Hwang Woo-seul-hye, has a break-even point of approximately 2.3 million viewers.

‘Harbin’ (directed by Woo Min-ho) has been pushed down to second place, attracting 15,693 viewers on the same day, bringing its cumulative audience to 4,554,350.

In third place is the theatrical version of ‘Pokémon AG: Mew and the Wave Hero Lucario,’ which scored an opening of 12,285 viewers. Fourth place is taken by ‘Substance,’ and fifth place goes to ‘Firefighter’ (directed by Kwak Kyung-taek).

Currently, the real-time ticket sales rate shows that Song Hye-kyo’s ‘Black Nuns’ is in an overwhelming first place with 39.9%. ‘Hitman 2’ is in second place, followed by ‘Secret That Cannot Be Told’ in third. Fourth place is occupied by ‘IU Concert: The Winning.’
