The movie ‘Harbin’ has barely surpassed 4 million viewers, while ‘Firefighter’ has made a comeback to rank 2nd.
According to the Korea Film Council's integrated ticket sales network on the 12th, ‘Harbin’ (directed by Woo Min-ho) attracted 134,708 viewers the previous day, bringing its total audience to 4,062,055.
Released on the 24th of last month, ‘Harbin’ depicts a thrilling chase and suspicion between those heading to Harbin for a single purpose in 1909 and those pursuing them. The break-even point is approximately 6.5 million viewers.
While successfully securing overseas sales and additional rights contracts, efforts are being made to lower the break-even point. However, it is rare for theaters to announce changes to the break-even point during the usual process. Even if theaters incur losses, they strive to recover those losses through various additional processes such as overseas sales and IPTV revenue, but fundamentally, since the content is produced for theatrical release, they humbly accept poor performance in theaters.
In the past, in an unusual case, when ‘Broker’ underperformed at the box office, CJ ENM lowered and announced the break-even point in a similar manner after its release to shed the stigma of not even breaking even.
In 2nd place is ‘Firefighter,’ directed by Kwak Kyung-taek and starring Joo Won and Kwak Do-won. On that day, 37,603 viewers attended, bringing its total audience to 3,669,219.
‘It’s a Fairytale, But It’s Rated R,’ starring Park Ji-hyun, ranks 3rd, meeting with over 27,000 viewers on the same day, bringing its total audience to 99,415.
Currently, the real-time advance ticket sales rate shows ‘Harbin’ (20.4%) in 1st place, with 49,241 tickets sold. Following closely is ‘A Secret That Cannot Be Told’ with 13.1%, selling 31,810 tickets. In 3rd place is ‘The Black Nuns,’ and in 4th place is ‘It’s a Fairytale, But It’s Rated R.’
