Ive's Jang Won-young has partially won her appeal in the damages lawsuit against a YouTuber.
The 9th Civil Division of the Seoul Central District Court (Judges Yoon Jae-nam, Seon Ui-jong, and Jeong Deok-soo) ruled on the 22nd that "Mr. Park, the operator of the YouTube channel 'Tal-Duck Reformatory,' must pay 50 million won."
In the first trial, it was ruled that "Mr. Park must pay Jang Won-young 100 million won plus delayed interest," but the amount was halved in the second trial.
Jang Won-young filed a lawsuit against Mr. Park in October 2023, claiming that the Tal-Duck Reformatory was continuously spreading false information that damaged her reputation. Her agency, Starship Entertainment, has also filed a damages lawsuit against Mr. Park, which is currently in the first trial.
Mr. Park has also been indicted for defamation against Jang Won-young, receiving a sentence of 2 years in prison with a 3-year probation in the first trial. The prosecution has appealed, and the second trial is ongoing.
Mr. Park was also prosecuted for defaming singer Kang Daniel and was fined 10 million won in the first trial last September.
