Singer Wheesung (real name Choi Wheesung, 43) has suddenly passed away, and the police are conducting an autopsy to determine the exact cause of his death.
The Seoul Gwangjin Police Station announced on the 11th, "We are investigating the circumstances of the deceased's death and have requested an autopsy from the National Forensic Service." Accordingly, the autopsy is scheduled to take place on the morning of the 12th, and the police plan to investigate the exact cause of death, including whether drug use was involved.
Wheesung was found in a state of cardiac arrest at an apartment in Gwangjin-gu, Seoul, at around 6:29 PM on the 10th. The 119 emergency responders attempted to provide first aid but ultimately pronounced him dead. It has been reported that syringes were found near him, shocking many. So far, there have been no signs of external intrusion or indications of homicide.
A police official stated, "As this is an ongoing investigation, it is difficult to disclose specific details," showing a cautious stance.
Past controversy over propofol use... Is it related to his death?
Wheesung had previously been embroiled in controversy over drug use. In 2020, he was found collapsed after using the anesthetic etomidate and was investigated by the police. He was later indicted for habitual use of propofol (violation of the Narcotics Control Act) and was sentenced to one year in prison with a two-year probation in 2021.
It has not yet been determined whether his death is directly related to his past drug use history. The police plan to decide on further investigations based on the autopsy results.

Wheesung's family is said to be in great shock over the sudden news. His agency, Tajo Entertainment, stated on the 11th, "The bereaved family is too overwhelmed with grief to proceed with funeral arrangements," and "They plan to hold a quiet funeral after cremation without setting up a memorial."
