Singer Lee Seung-hwan has filed a constitutional complaint against the mayor of Gumi.
On the 6th, Lee Seung-hwan posted on his social media, “On December 20, 2024, I seek a judgment from the Constitutional Court regarding the infringement of my freedom of conscience, freedom of art, and freedom of expression by the mayor of Gumi. Dream Factory will go to the end,” along with the complaint document for the constitutional complaint.
The complaint states, “We seek a decision confirming that the respondent's requirement for the claimant to sign a pledge on December 20, 2024, which includes the clause ‘Singer Lee Seung-hwan will not engage in political agitation or political misunderstandings in accordance with the regulations for the performance permit at the Gumi Cultural and Arts Center,’ infringes upon the claimant's freedom of conscience, freedom of art, and freedom of expression, and is unconstitutional.”
Lee Seung-hwan had planned to hold a concert in Gumi last December, but it was canceled when the mayor of Gumi denied the venue two days before the concert.
