Circumstances have emerged revealing that the late MBC weathercaster Oh Yoanna, who passed away in September last year, had complained about workplace bullying, leading to increased calls for the punishment of the perpetrators.
On the 27th, Daegu and Gyeongbuk regional media outlet Maeil Shinmun reported that "a 17-page, 2,750-character letter was found on the late Oh Yoanna's mobile phone," revealing that she had been bullied by certain fellow weathercasters.
In her letter, the deceased mentioned "the actions of fellow weathercasters who shifted the blame for false reports and criticized her" and "circumstances where she was pressured to work even after hours." It is known that she suffered extreme stress due to the criticism and pressure from her fellow weathercasters during her lifetime.
In October 2022, the late Oh Yoanna appeared on the tvN entertainment program "You Quiz on the Block," showcasing her pride as an "MBC flagship weathercaster" and her bright demeanor. During the broadcast, she expressed her passion, stating, "Being a weathercaster requires a lot of effort for the brief moments on screen."
However, after the broadcast, it was revealed that she had been suffering from workplace bullying, shocking viewers. Many expressed their sorrow, reacting with comments like, "I can't believe she was going through such pain while smiling brightly on 'You Quiz'."
In particular, friends of the deceased are raising their voices, stating, "We must uncover the truth and punish the perpetrators so that her death is not in vain." Notably, the recordings and messages left by the deceased contain specific details about the workplace bullying and statements from those involved, amplifying the impact of the incident.
As of now, MBC has not released an official statement. The fellow weathercasters identified as the main perpetrators have either declined interview requests or have been evasive.
Oh Yoanna joined MBC as a weathercaster in 2021 and was loved for her bright energy and passion. Her sudden death has shocked many and has once again raised awareness about workplace bullying.
