Cases of voice phishing targeting the elderly by approaching them under the pretext of card misissuance and inducing them to take out large amounts of mortgage loans are on the rise. The Financial Supervisory Service has issued a consumer alert to prevent such fraud.

According to the Financial Supervisory Service on the 10th, there has been an increase in crimes where voice phishing scammers divide roles as card delivery personnel, card consultants, and Financial Supervisory Service employees to deceive victims. They mislead victims by providing information about cards they did not apply for or by claiming they will provide information about financial crimes unrelated to the victims, thereby inducing them to click on text message links or install apps.

Authorities have urged consumers to be particularly cautious about loan inducements when personal information leakage, identity theft, involvement in crimes, detention investigations, or confidentiality are mentioned during calls with third parties. They especially advised against clicking on links from unclear sources.
