A new recruit is coming to shake up the Mythical Unit in 'New Recruit 3'.
Genie TV's original drama 'New Recruit 3' (written by Yoon Gi-young and Kang Go-eun, directed by Min Jin-ki and Jo Je-wook) has revealed the new faces arriving at the Mythical Unit.
Starting from the mega-hit animation of the same name, 'New Recruit' is a hyper-realistic comedy depicting the story of a 'military spoon' recruit who joins a place where all kinds of characters, from good to bad to strange, gather. Returning with high expectations, 'New Recruit 3' features the unpredictable transfer of two new recruits and the return of an unprecedented villain, raising the stakes for the Mythical Unit. The military life of Park Min-seok (played by Kim Min-ho), who is about to be promoted to Corporal, is expected to evoke deep laughter and delightful empathy as it becomes increasingly difficult.
Returning 'New Recruits' Kim Min-ho, Nam Tae-woo, Lee Sang-jin, Jo Jin-se, Lee Chung-gu, Kim Hyun-kyu, Lee Jung-hyun, Jeon Seung-hoon, and Lee Soo-ji are set to hard carry once again with their evolved military life cheat codes, as their experience has increased. The addition of 'new faces' Kim Dong-jun, Oh Dae-hwan, and Kim Yo-han, who will share the tumultuous period as Park Min-seok transitions to a senior, is also a hot topic.
The photos released that day capture the extreme contrast of the two new recruits' initiation ceremonies, sparking curiosity. Park Min-seok and the veteran soldiers Choi Il-goo (played by Nam Tae-woo), Kim Sang-hoon (played by Lee Chung-gu), and Cha Byeong-ho (played by Kang Hyo-seung) are seen wide-eyed, momentarily forgetting the dignity of their seniors as they gaze at the new recruits. Even the Mythical Unit's official poker face Lim Da-hye (played by Jeon Seung-hoon) is drawing attention as she draws a shy heart. Standing at the end of their gaze is none other than the global star Jeon Se-gye (played by Kim Dong-jun), who enlisted with a 'national spoon'. With dazzling visuals and a perfect salute, Jeon Se-gye embodies the essence of a 'prepared recruit', drawing admiration from everyone.
In contrast, the initiation ceremony of another recruit, Moon Bit-na-ri (played by Kim Yo-han), is 180 degrees different. With glasses that make her look naive and chubby cheeks, Moon Bit-na-ri appears to be fully disciplined, yet somehow gives off a 'loser' vibe. Meanwhile, the scene in the barracks welcoming Moon Bit-na-ri is intriguing. Park Min-seok, exuding a 'sergeant-like' aura, sits upright next to Choi Il-goo and Kim Sang-hoon. As an unusual recruit play is anticipated, Park Min-seok's act of hiding behind the new recruit Moon Bit-na-ri to avoid the furious Choi Il-goo showcases the dynamic days of the Mythical Unit, piquing curiosity.
Having returned after the beloved seasons 1 and 2, Park Min-seok expressed, "This season has truly wonderful and amazing actors joining. I'm so happy to be together, and we filmed with excitement. Everyone quickly became 'new recruits' and we were able to act comfortably while chatting." This raises expectations for the new faces' performances.
Kim Dong-jun, who plays the 'national spoon' recruit Jeon Se-gye, threatening Park Min-seok's position, shared, "I was very surprised when I first received the offer to join. Since it was a work that received so much love, I felt pressure, but I was so excited to be part of it as one of the recruits." He continued, "As the drama introduces a place where all kinds of characters gather, I was curious about what kind of character the new recruit 'Jeon Se-gye' would be in the drama." He described his character, saying, "Jeon Se-gye is a character with an irresistible charm, being a celebrity." Additionally, Kim Dong-jun, who actually served as a training instructor in the army, shared an interesting anecdote: "I wanted to capture the experience of entering the training camp and living as a private. Some episodes were filmed based on stories I experienced during my actual military service."
As they are newly joined, there is much interest in how they will interact with the existing cast. Regarding this, Kim Dong-jun said, "The filming was so enjoyable. Since we were capturing stories that all military veterans can relate to, we had many opportunities for exposure, which helped us become friends more quickly. Don't imagine 'Descendants of the Sun' when you hear 'exposure scenes'." He added humorously. Especially regarding his co-star Kim Yo-han, he remarked, "Throughout the filming, the energy of Moon Bit-na-ri and the chemistry with Jeon Se-gye were great. I cautiously predict that after the broadcast ends, everyone will remember actor Kim Yo-han as 'Moon Bit-na-ri'."
Meanwhile, Kim Yo-han, who plays the recruit Moon Bit-na-ri with an aura reminiscent of Park Min-seok's past, expressed, "Since 'New Recruit' is a drama that progresses in seasons, I was worried about whether I could do well. However, the wonderful director led us well, and the warm bond with the 'New Recruit' cast embraced me, allowing me to join so well." He shared his overwhelming feelings.
He described the character Moon Bit-na-ri, saying, "In society, she is a model student from a science high school and Seoul National University. However, in the military, even though she tries hard, things don't go as planned, and she experiences difficulties while being scolded by her seniors. Through the care and warm love of her comrades, she grows." He added, "The character has a charm with red horn-rimmed glasses. It will leave a strong impression that won't be forgotten once seen." Regarding the chemistry among the actors, he said, "It was very good. The seniors who have been working together for four years naturally took care of me, and I think we achieved harmony within that." He expressed anticipation for the unique combination.
Director Min Jin-ki also expressed trust in the new faces Kim Dong-jun and Kim Yo-han. He stated, "I thought a new driving force was needed, so I established the character 'Jeon Se-gye' at the end of season 2. Watching Kim Dong-jun's previous works, I was convinced he was the right fit for the role. As an idol, I thought he would fit the character perfectly." He also mentioned Kim Yo-han, saying, "I felt that he was irreplaceable for the role of Moon Bit-na-ri, so he was the first actor I contacted for a meeting while preparing the project. Since Kim Yo-han was also a fan of the 'New Recruit' series, he decided to join without even reading the script," showing great trust.
Meanwhile, Genie TV's original drama 'New Recruit 3' will premiere on April 7 at 10 PM on channel ENA, and will be exclusively available for free VOD on KT Genie TV immediately after the broadcast every Monday and Tuesday at 10 PM. It can be watched on OTT platforms like Tving.
