
In the Year of the Blue Snake, MBC is presenting special programs for the Lunar New Year.
This Lunar New Year, viewers can look forward to a variety of shows, from the ‘Broadcast Entertainment Awards’ celebrating its 30th anniversary to the ‘Gayo Daejeon,’ which has established itself as a special stage, along with rich entertainment and current affairs programs.
First, on January 28th, Tuesday at 8:20 PM, the ‘2024 MBC Broadcast Entertainment Awards’ will be broadcast live in two parts. This awards ceremony, which comes during the Lunar New Year holiday to celebrate its 30th anniversary, will be hosted by Jeong Hyun-moo, Yoon Eun-hye, and Lee Jang-woo. It raises curiosity about who will be the glorious winners among the entertainers who brought joy to viewers over the past year, and nostalgic entertainers who once dominated MBC's entertainment programs are expected to add richness as presenters.
Following that, on January 29th, Wednesday at 5:25 PM and January 30th, Thursday at 5:20 PM, the ‘Lunar New Year Special MBC Gayo Daejeon WANNABE’ will unfold. K-POP wannabes, who everyone aspires to be, will gather in one place to provide a gift-like experience, and in line with the ‘wannabe’ theme, ‘Girls' Generation’ Yoona and ‘SHINee’ Minho, as well as 5th generation idol ‘TWS,’ Do-hoon, have been selected as MCs, raising expectations for their new chemistry. Artists from various generations, including aespa, ATEEZ, BOYNEXTDOOR, DAY6, ENHYPEN, ITZY, IVE, NCT 127, NCT DREAM, NCT WISH, NewJeans, PLAVE, RIIZE, Stray Kids, TOMORROW X TOGETHER, TWS, ZEROBASEONE, (G)I-DLE, Young-tak, Lee Chan-won, and Taemin, are set to appear, drawing attention to what kind of performances they will present. As part of the Lunar New Year special, a preview of the new entertainment program ‘Good Day’ will be broadcast on January 26th, Sunday at 11:50 PM. ‘Good Day’ (directed by Kim Tae-ho, produced by TEO) is a music project where G-Dragon collaborates with various figures to complete the song of the year. G-Dragon will personally take on the role of producer, showcasing the process of unfolding stories of various individuals through music in a reality entertainment format.
Additionally, the beloved program ‘Village Head Lee Jang-woo’ will return for a Lunar New Year special. ‘Village Head Lee Jang-woo’ features actor Lee Jang-woo spending the four seasons with neighbors in a rural village, transforming a local abandoned brewery into a ‘hot place.’ The ‘Lunar New Year Special Village Head Lee Jang-woo’ will air on January 28th, Tuesday at 5:50 PM, revealing new content prepared for the special, previously unseen episodes, and behind-the-scenes stories. On January 30th, Thursday at 8:20 PM, MBC's flagship entertainment program ‘What Do You Do When You Play?’ will have a spin-off program titled ‘What Are You Doing, Hyung?’ This program, featuring Ha Ha, Joo Woo-jae, and Lee Yi-kyung, started with the idea of “What do we do on days without filming? Let’s do something,” and is expected to showcase their delightful chemistry during their travels.
On January 29th, Wednesday at 8:20 PM, MBC's talk program ‘Questions by Son Seok-hee’ (hereafter referred to as ‘Questions’) will return live. Starting with this Lunar New Year special, ‘Questions’ is planned to be a 10-part series that still captures the concerns of Korean society, focusing on how citizens can maintain their lives amidst the massive events we are currently experiencing.
Additionally, the new MBC Friday-Saturday drama ‘Undercover High School,’ which will premiere on February 21st, Friday at 9:50 PM, will have a preview for viewers during the Lunar New Year holiday. ‘Undercover High School’ is a drama about a National Intelligence Service agent who disguises as a high school student to track down the whereabouts of Emperor Gojong's missing gold bars, showcasing the chaotic adventures of a high school student. The premiere of ‘Undercover High School’ will be released on January 27th, Monday at 4:30 PM. Furthermore, the well-made first love romance ‘Motel California,’ which has received much love from viewers, will have a binge-watch of episodes 1-6 starting from January 29th, Wednesday at 2:10 PM, stirring viewers' hearts with the poignant ‘2023 first love narrative’ of Lee Se-young and Na In-woo.
In addition, the special Lunar New Year films ‘Rebound’ and ‘Single in Seoul’ will be presented, and MBC's flagship entertainment programs ‘It’s a Blessing to Rest,’ ‘Radio Star,’ and ‘Home Alone!’ will continue to meet viewers during the Lunar New Year holiday.
