Kang Won-rae of the group Clon expressed his sorrow over the news of the passing of Taiwanese actress Shiu Hsi-yuan (Shiu Shih-yuan), who is the wife of Gu Jun-yeop.
On the 3rd, Kang Won-rae conveyed his feelings through a media outlet, saying, "I can't believe it. I sent a confirmation text to Gu Jun-yeop asking, 'Isn't this fake news again?' Last year, when I came to Korea, we had a great time with the kids, and she said we should meet in Taiwan," expressing his deep sadness.
He continued, "I confirmed during the divorce rumors, and there were so many fake news stories that the two of them had a hard time. I really hoped this would be fake news too," lamenting the situation.
On the same day, local media outlets such as ET Today and the Central News Agency (CNA) reported, citing Shiu Hsi-yuan's sister Shiu Shih-ti, that she passed away from pneumonia caused by the flu while traveling in Japan. She was 48 years old.
Shiu Shih-ti stated through local media, "During the Lunar New Year holiday, our family went on a trip to Japan, and my beloved sister Shiu Hsi-yuan unfortunately left us due to complications from pneumonia caused by the flu."
She added, "It was a great blessing for me to be able to be with my sister in this life, taking care of and relying on each other. I will forever be grateful and deeply miss her," and expressed, "I hope she rests in peace. I will love and remember her forever."
As reports about Shiu Hsi-yuan's passing continued, Gu Jun-yeop revealed his sorrow in a phone call with a media outlet, saying, "I'm not okay." He also addressed the allegations of fake news, stating, "It's not fake news," sharing his feelings.
Shiu Hsi-yuan debuted in 1994 with her sister as part of the group 'SOS'. She is also famous for playing the lead role in the Taiwanese version of the drama 'Boys Over Flowers'. In Korea, she became known as 'Taiwan's Geum Jan-di', named after the lead female character in a domestic drama.
Gu Jun-yeop and Shiu Hsi-yuan first met in 1998 and were in a relationship until the early 2000s before breaking up. Later, Shiu Hsi-yuan married Chinese businessman Wang Xiaofei in 2011 and had a daughter and a son, but they separated in 2021. During this time, Gu Jun-yeop reached out to Shiu Hsi-yuan again, and they got married in 2022.
Gu Jun-yeop appeared on the SBS variety show 'Shoe Off and Single Man' last April, where he shared their love story and episodes from their newlywed life, drawing attention.
