‘Mickey 17’ (directed by Bong Joon-ho) is still holding onto the box office throne, but its momentum has somewhat diminished.
According to the integrated computer network for movie ticket sales from the Korean Film Council on the morning of the 12th, ‘Mickey 17’ attracted 45,728 viewers the previous day, bringing its cumulative audience to 2,196,370. The daily audience count the day before was also 52,079.
Although the weekend audience numbers surged, making it the fastest film to surpass 2 million this year, and it also topped the North American box office last weekend, the outlook for its box office performance is not entirely optimistic.
It is reported that Warner Brothers supported a production budget of $118 million, with an additional $80 million for marketing, indicating that there is still a long way to go to achieve profitability.
In second place is ‘Conclave,’ which attracted 7,254 viewers, bringing its cumulative audience to 89,418. Third place goes to ‘Exorcism,’ which was chosen by 4,800 viewers, with a cumulative audience of about 390,000. Fourth place is Marvel's superhero film ‘Captain America: Brave New World’ (hereafter ‘Captain America 4’), with a cumulative audience of about 1.63 million.
The real-time reservation rate leader is ‘Attack on Titan: The Last Attack,’ which has surpassed ‘Mickey 17.’ Following that are ‘Mickey 17,’ ‘Invasion,’ and ‘Whiplash’ in order.
‘Invasion,’ which premiered on this day, is a psychological thriller depicting the breakdown of Yeong-eun's (played by Kwak Sun-young) daily life due to her daughter So-hyun's strange behavior, and 20 years later, Min (played by Kwon Yu-ri), who has lost her memories of the past, encounters Ha-young (played by Lee Seol), leading to a fracture. The webtoon of the same name recorded a high rating of 9.82 during its serialization, and the film was officially invited to the 29th Busan International Film Festival held last year, receiving explosive responses from the audience who watched it in advance.
