The play 'Killing Caesar', based on the masterpiece 'Julius Caesar' by the great playwright Shakespeare, has confirmed its opening on May 10, 2025, at the Mary Hall Grand Theater of Sogang University. This work, focused on the 'assassination of Caesar', has been reimagined as a perfect modern play rather than a simple historical drama or a faithful reproduction of a classic.
The play 'Killing Caesar' portrays the irony that the assassination of Caesar, carried out under the pretext of protecting the republic, ultimately gave rise to another dictator. Directed by Kim Jung and written by Oh Se-hyuk, this work is set to meet audiences through the new cultural content group Tove Theater Company.
Additionally, the casting of four active and talented actors who traverse both stage and screen has been announced, including Kim Jun-won, Son Ho-jun, Yang Ji-won, and Yoo Seung-ho.
Kim Jun-won and Son Ho-jun have been cast as Caesar, who is assassinated before ascending to the position of absolute leader and emperor of Rome. Yang Ji-won has been cast as Cassius, who is conflicted between political ambition and the justification of protecting the republic, while Yoo Seung-ho will portray the idealist Brutus, who struggles with the dilemma of betraying a friend for the ideals of the republic.
This remarkable political story, layered over historical facts, unfolds through just three characters. Additionally, a chorus of seven will perform various characters or situations, providing a striking stage experience at every moment.
The most perfect play of 2025, 'Killing Caesar', will be performed from May 10 to July 20 at the Mary Hall Grand Theater of Sogang University.
