Broadcaster Jang Sung-kyu, who has been embroiled in allegations of turning a blind eye to the workplace bullying of the late MBC weathercaster Oh Yoanna, has once again clarified the situation.
On the 8th, Jang Sung-kyu commented on a community post on the YouTube channel 'Garo Sero Research Institute,' mentioning CEO Kim Se-yi, saying, “Se-yi hyung~ Thanks to you, I’ve been called a murderer and there are people telling my sons to do XX. Se-yi hyung's influence is amazing.”
He continued, “I am trying to respect your way of life. However, once the facts are clarified, I would appreciate a correction in the reports~~ Well, it’s late, but Happy New Year to you,” and added, “Oh, and I would be very grateful if you could let me know who the MBC employee is that made false reports over the phone.”
The post to which Jang Sung-kyu commented contains claims from 'Garo Sero Research Institute' alleging that he turned a blind eye to the workplace bullying of the late Oh Yoanna.
On the 3rd, 'Garo Sero Research Institute' posted in the community, “Mr. Jang Sung-kyu, do you have any sense of guilt? It’s really pathetic that you told your seniors about the difficult situation Oh Yoanna explained to you,” and added, “Mr. Jang Sung-kyu, if you have any conscience, go apologize to Oh Yoanna's family right now. And confess the crimes of MBC weathercaster Kim Ga-young and others. If you pretend not to know now, you are also an accomplice.”
The late Oh Yoanna passed away suddenly last September. The news of her death was belatedly reported three months later in December, and a 17-page handwritten letter was found on her mobile phone, leading to allegations of workplace bullying.
The bereaved family filed a civil lawsuit in December of last year against colleagues who appeared to have engaged in workplace bullying at the Seoul Central District Court, and MBC formed a fact-finding committee to investigate.
Among these developments, a recording of a phone call with an MBC official released by the YouTube channel 'Garo Sero Research Institute' on the 31st of last month revealed that one of the weathercasters identified as a perpetrator had been sowing discord between the late Oh Yoanna and Jang Sung-kyu, causing a stir.
In response, Jang Sung-kyu stated on his channel on the 5th, “When my name was first mentioned, I was upset because the content was not true, but I judged that my pain is nothing compared to the pain of the deceased and the bereaved family, so I chose to remain silent without correcting it,” and added, “I think it is wrong to try to resolve my small grievances before the injustices of the deceased are addressed. However, I humbly ask that you refrain from leaving malicious comments about my family until everything is resolved.”
