Singer Shin Yoo showcased the charm of traditional music through ‘Current King of Masked Singer 2’.
On the 4th, Shin Yoo participated in the semifinals of the MBN competition ‘Current King of Masked Singer 2’, which is a fierce battle for the Taeguk mark.
On this day, Shin Yoo faced off against Jin Hae-sung in a ‘1-on-1 genre battle’ in the ‘traditional music genre’. Shin Yoo expressed his determination, saying, “It has come. I need to face this properly,” and sought advice from traditional singer Lee Bong-geun before the stage.
Lee Bong-geun advised Shin Yoo, “There is a key point in pansori. How about hitting it very briefly and then taking that energy to reach the climax?” Shin Yoo responded, “If I do it right, it will be spine-chilling,” but also admitted, “If I do well, it will be a big hit, and if not, it will be a failure,” showing his nervousness.
Shin Yoo then presented a performance of Park Ae-ri’s ‘Sookdaemari’. He combined a mournful voice with solid singing over a rich melody, creating a compelling stage. Nam Jin remarked, “I never thought Shin Yoo could sing like that,” while Joo Hyun-mi said, “I have no words,” expressing her surprise.
Additionally, Daesung joked, “It was almost like another key point. I want to call him ‘Ghost Yoo’,” and Seol Woon-do also commented, “I was surprised to see Shin Yoo. When he hit the high notes, I heard a new true voice coming from his diaphragm,” adding, “I thought, ‘Such a sound can come from a singer named Shin Yoo.’ I think this part was a remarkable discovery and a stroke of genius,” praising him highly.
Composer Yoon Myung-sun added, “By letting everything go and approaching it with a humble attitude, Shin Yoo’s sharpness and solemnity come out. I think it was a good decision to appear on ‘Current King of Masked Singer 2’.”
Finally, Shin Yoo received a score of 100 from the celebrity judging panel and 125 from the national judging panel, totaling 225 points, winning against Jin Hae-sung.
