On the 20th (local time), at the press conference held at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in Berlin, director Hong Sang-soo discussed his new film "What Does the Nature Say to You." He stated, "I didn't intend to make a talkative film," explaining that this work captures "just what is given" rather than conveying a specific message.
The film depicts the story of a 30-something poet, Dong-hwa (Ha Sung-kuk), visiting the home of his girlfriend, Jun-hee (Kang So-i). Director Hong revealed his approach to the film, saying, "I am not the type to set a message and make a film accordingly. The story simply starts from what is given."
Actor Kwon Hae-hyo, who frequently appears in Hong's films, shared, "Working with director Hong always involves receiving the script on the morning of the shoot. It is important to accept the reactions of the co-actors as they are," conveying the atmosphere on set.
However, the absence of Kim Min-hee garnered even more attention at the press conference. Although she participated in this film as a production manager rather than an actress, she ultimately did not appear at the official event. Given that Kim Min-hee had previously drawn attention by appearing at the Berlin Film Festival amidst recent pregnancy rumors, her absence raises further questions.
Some speculate that her absence may be due to health issues or a deliberate move to protect her privacy. Since acknowledging their relationship in 2017, director Hong Sang-soo and Kim Min-hee have attended the Berlin Film Festival together every year, earning the title of 'the couple loved by Berlin.' However, at this press conference, director Hong was present alone, intensifying curiosity about Kim Min-hee's future actions.
Meanwhile, "What Does the Nature Say to You" is director Hong's 33rd feature film and has been invited to compete at this year's Berlin International Film Festival. Attention is focused on whether director Hong will continue his streak of six consecutive years of awards.
