Kim Ga-young, an MBC weathercaster, has been identified as one of the perpetrators of workplace bullying against the late Oh Yoanna, leading to rumors of her departure from SBS’s ‘Goal Diggers’.
An SBS representative stated on the 3rd regarding Kim Ga-young’s participation in ‘Goal Diggers’ (hereinafter referred to as ‘Goal Diggers’), “We are currently waiting for the investigation results.”
When asked if Kim Ga-young had expressed her intention to leave ‘Goal Diggers’, the representative cautiously replied, “There has been no communicated stance other than that we are waiting for the investigation results.”
Oh Yoanna, who gained recognition as an MBC weathercaster, passed away at the age of 28 in September 2024. At the time, the cause of death was not known, but allegations of workplace bullying she faced during her life were later revealed. Her family claims that Oh Yoanna suffered from bullying for two years and has filed a civil lawsuit against two fellow weathercasters at MBC who have been identified as perpetrators.
Subsequently, on the 31st of last month, JTBC’s ‘Incident Report’ revealed the contents of a group chat involving six MBC weathercasters, excluding Oh Yoanna and her fellow weathercaster, intensifying the controversy as the perpetrators of workplace bullying were identified. The disclosed KakaoTalk group chat included comments such as “Let’s leave the group chat,” “It’s not that they are stupid, it’s just that the kids are terrible now,” “They come without even washing properly,” and “Seriously, it’s just ridiculous.”
In response, the family stated, “(Oh Yoanna) made her first attempt on September 6 last year and then attempted once more. Ultimately, she passed away on September 15,” adding, “She expressed the difficulties of her work life to her family and received treatment and medication from over ten psychiatric clinics.”
Kim Ga-young, identified as one of the four perpetrators, received criticism on social media immediately after the group chat was revealed but has maintained silence by closing the comment section instead of directly addressing the issue.
Despite the ongoing controversy regarding the perpetrators, Kim Ga-young is currently continuing her regular broadcasts on ‘MBC News Desk’ and ‘Good Morning FM with Tae-yi’.
Meanwhile, MBC stated regarding the allegations of workplace bullying against Oh Yoanna, “We have been conducting an internal investigation immediately after the allegations surrounding the deceased’s death were raised, and we plan to provide all preliminary investigation materials secured so far to the committee to support a smooth and swift clarification of the truth,” adding, “We pray for the deceased’s soul and will do our utmost to clarify the facts so that the family’s pain can be healed.”
