On the morning of the 20th, KBS stated in an official press release, "It is unacceptable that KBS reporters covering the 'violence incident at the Seoul Western District Court' immediately after President Yoon Seok-yeol's arrest decision were assaulted by those involved in the violence."
They continued, "About ten individuals involved in the violence repeatedly assaulted KBS cameramen and video reporting assistants who were filming, and during this process, some of the filming equipment was damaged. Assaulting reporters who are working to realize the public's right to know, a fundamental right under the Constitution, is a serious threat to press freedom and a direct challenge to the rule of law and liberal democracy."
KBS stated regarding this assault incident, "We express strong regret over this incident and urge the judicial authorities to conduct a thorough investigation and punishment. KBS plans to take strong measures, including filing criminal charges against those who assaulted the reporters," and added, "We will also spare no effort in providing all necessary support for the treatment of injuries and psychological therapy for the reporters who were assaulted."
Finally, KBS emphasized, "We will continue to pay attention to the safety of our reporters while intensifying our coverage and reporting on the state of emergency and the presidential impeachment incident."
